I read a lot of reviews from various brands before purchasing this one and another brand that I have to 2 grandsons to try. One review had great advice - because it's hard to see the lines on the water meaure... Said to throw away the cup and use a Tablespoon measure for the water... 2 Tablespoons water for poached-- 4 Tablespoons water soft boiled eggs-- 6 Tablespoons Hardboiled eggs. The instructions included with t his model said to fill the cup half way( 4 Tablespoons) since I just got it yesterday I followed enclosed directions and they were well poached... I plan on doing just 2 Tablespoons next time. I also boiled eggs. Takes about 18 mins. Just like the enclosed instructions say. The timer goes off and unless you are in the kitchen you will never hear it - it's very soft sounding. I suggest you set your own timer so you know to turn off the cooker. I bought this cooker because the poacher is different than other models... It works great. Other models have a different dish to poach or make omelettes in. Be sure to wipe down the plate when it cools...some people complained of rust so I made sure it was wiped dry. Takes very little water, very little cleaup, time or energy to use this cooker. Oh, because I read other reviews did I even know there was an egg shell piercer the bottom of the water measure cup included... I never read it in the instructions included with this model. I've never used one before , so I made a couple boiled eggs tend to crack while cooking . Other reviews suggested just poking holes with a pin. It's to release pressure . All in all because I read plenty of reviews to help with what was missing in instructions I was pleased with the purchase.
Awesome egg poacher as well!
Eggs are my favorite food, but I have to watch the cholesterol! Making boiled eggs for egg salad is a snap with this. Trick is leaving them in cold water for a while so shells come off easily.
This is my second one. The first one started to rust in the water chamber after onmly three uses. Walmart did take it back. I'm watching this one carefully and have saved the box to return it if necessary.
The measuring cup is cracked and the lines, to measure the water are barely visible. I'm very sad because I was really looking forward to having poached eggs.
I haven't used this egg cooker yet and I've already found a glaring flaw. The measuring cup is a joke. The measurements appear to be etched in the plastic. Unfortunately, you can't see them so you can't be sure what they are. Why aren't they easy to read? Or legible? If this flaw is any indication of this egg cooker's performance, my eggs will be ruined. No stars is my rating.
the cup that has measures you cannot see and it is confusing. the point on bottom of cup did not pierce the egg. it broke the eggs when I tried. The alarm was not loud enough to hear. you must use large or medium eggs because extra large were soft cooked barely. I wont be using that again.
Proctor Silex Egg Cooker had no alarm nor automatic shutoff. Egg holder did not sit evenly on the unit. Waste of money. I had to purchase a different brand that had both the timer and automatic shut-off features Very disappointed with this item.
product is very cheaply made the lid and water container both cracked looked like a return. also took over a week to receive. when it said next day delivery
The water measure is nearly impossible to read. I took it to my neighbor who used a flashlight and magnifying glass. The “alarm” is barely audible. I am returning it.
