I use this tool for all measuring tasks. The tool is easy to use and very accurate. The mechanism works as if it is still a brand new tool. I dropped it many times and still functions the same as when it was pruchased two years ago. So far very dependable and a must have tool. Unfortunately I accidentally stepped on it and now the tape has a diagonal fold between 1 and 2 inches. I wonder if this is covered by the warranty?
Great tool.
I first bought a lever lock tape measure 2-3 yrs ago and loved the automatic locking, press to release approach that made way more sense to me. I then found packages of three, and got one for each of my brothers and myself. After about 1 yr of light use the 30' tape measure stopped locking the tape, it would simply slide (slowly) back in. In examining the tape measure I realized that the hard rubber lever was too big, and was bumping up against the yellow frame, preventing the lever from adequately pinching the tape. I used an exacto blade to shave off ~1mm from the rubber lever, and the tape measure works perfectly again! I am very satisfied with this tape measure and highly recommend it.
#HammerTimeSweepstakes The STANLEY® STHT30830W 30' Leverlock Tape Measure is excellent & well made. I use this several times a week. The numbers are clear, precise & easy to read. The Leverlock is easy to engage and disengage. I like that I don't need a second person to hold the tape measure down on the other end, because this is the perfect width & creates a nice sturdy feel. The base is flat and steady with a rubberized type of base, so it doesn't scratch my wood surfaces. This has a nice weight to it, fits in hand nicely & fits well in my toolbox too. Priced well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this tape for at least 15 years. Mine is a green high visability model and that is why I still have it, it is hard to lose because it is easy to find. I can extend it 80 inches before it collapses. It's accurate and convienient. I like the size of the tape, it's easily visable graduations and large enough to read without issues as a monocular 60 year old.
I bought this tape measure about 8 months ago when I was remodeling a room in my house. Had the leverlock feature which I found very useful and actually was the primary purpose I bought it since I was doing the remodel myself. I doubt I used the tame measure more than a hundred times in that period of time and over the last 10 or so uses found the lock failing from 0 to 12 feet the lock barely holds, and at measurements beyond that it fails to the rate of abut a foot every 30 to 45 seconds. I have no issue with the actual quality of the tape, but if you are buying it more uniquely for the necessary lock function I suggest you look elsewhere.
Nice tape but "leverLock" should be "NeverLock". Have had this for years, tape is still fine but I don't think it has EVER correctly locked in place. Finding it ever more frustrating whenever that bag of tools comes up in the rotation
Lock mechanism wears out fast, I have had to open it up and put electrical tape inside, to get it working again. Not what I expect from Stanley Tools. Very disappointed. Why didn't you use something that wouldn't wear out so fast? I look after my tools, so it hasn't happened from neglect.
My tape measure is less than 1 year old. The LeverLock system no longer is operating. The tape no longer stay in place when extended. Without that feature this in now an expensive tape measure, that offers the same benefit as those a fraction of the cost. This tape is used perhaps 10-12 times per month.
