The "Stock", not the "Broth", has protein in it. I'm diabetic and I need the protein so my body process any sugar content I eat, especially when my blood sugar drops. I'm taking a med that makes me nauseated, using the stock for chicken and rice, has been awesome. My daughter told me about the protein in the Stock.
Product was good, but the packaging was terrible. Why did they take the security seal out of? That is crazy. Thought it had been tampered with took it back to the store exchanged it and realized all of them were like that that they had changed the packaging this day and time you just can't trust anybody.
When I make things like Chicken and Rice, (All in the oven), I'll use a can full of this instead of water to my Cream of Chicken, condenced soup. (2 cans for 12 pcs of chicken). Less sodium and a bit thicker than Chicken Broth, it also helps deepen then flavor. Using it in a 1 to 1, (like if adding a can of water, use a can of this instead), to 2 cups Minute Rice added to rice Fam. Size, Chicken Flavor, I mix it all on a big bowl with the soup and packet. Lay the dry rice, both minute and from the box, in a big baking pan. (sprayed or oiled and floured), lay the chicken on top of the rice, skin side up or skinless is fine, pour over the mixture and bake covered at 350, for an hour and 15 mins. (Yes, it will look like you're teaching the chicken to swim, but it thickens as it bakes). Remove foil for 20 to brown up the top of the chicken and serve!
This is very close to a homemade product, although salty. We have tried a number of broths and stocks from various other companies yet this one tasted the best overall. It was also tested by America's test kitchen and the episode is available on YouTube.
Swanson has the best "stock" products of them all. They taste great and is a wonderful boost to soups and stews. Great product with the SWANSON name !!
My only problem is I received the product Monday and went to use it today (Wednesday) and the seal was broken. I do use the delivery service so I don't get a chance to look for myself. It's not worth $2.52 to save the box, print the receipt and actually walk in that place to get my money back. It would be nice if the shoppers looked closer at the items they are pulling- like as if it were their own.
My golden rule when using this product is to add a piece (or 2) of chicken to give it more chicken flavor. Don't over boil the chicken; just cook to 165-175 and remove if you want to use it for eating if not, just leave it in until you're ready to eat soup. I make my matzo balls in it; but use my homemade stock for the actual serving of the dish. But when I'm out of my stock, this will do (with a little bit of doctoring.) Enjoy
This product has become so watered down that there is literally almost no trace of flavor. Even when tasting this straight out of the container. In fact you don't even taste salt you basically taste nothing. The entire reason I bought stock rather than broth is because it's supposed to have some residue of the actual meat in it or maybe a little bit of fogginess due to the fact that it has small amounts of something in it. This has been filtered so many times that it's completely translucent and has no taste. It's s a little bit foggier than water. if I had to guess the ratio of stock to just tap water is about 1/8 of a cup for the amount of tap water in this container.
Of the two boxes of chicken stock I ordered. One appeared to be “bloated”, and I noticed as it was unusual. The following day when I went to use it, with looking closer, there was no typical cap that is twisted off, just a flat top that you then break a fouled barrier, very odd. I decided to pour the contents into a separate bowl first, was suspicious, to see what it looked like. The contents smelled normal, BUT….. there was a stringy and white mass that I pulled out and it stuck together. I believe it to be paper product as after I squeezed the stock out, it was left with what looked like pulp or thick wet paper substance.
I receiver 2f these containers of this chicken stock in my last order. When I went to use them they appeared to have been tamper with. Both security caps were open. I think someone should check the rest
