Had this grill in my shopping cart for years and finally bought it! Forgot how much I enjoyed charcoal bbq's from the past. Easy to assemble, and works great.
Replaced my 18 inch weber with this. Takes less room and accommodates the small amount of food I cook for one. Easy to clean. Had no issues with getting enough heat from the coals as some others have mentioned. Very happy with this little guy.
Great little addition to Weber collection. We use this grill for camping. Does great with burgers, steaks and sausages. Fantastic grill.
Weber quality for sure. Cooks like my 22 kettle only smaller. Perfect for my camper. Very easy to clean and store.
The people who complain about about this grill have no idea how to use it. From day one it grilled perfectly. I love Weber grills. I just retired my Smokey Joe and upgraded to the Smokey Joe Premium. I RV full time and with the locking lid and no holes in the so ash doesn't get all over the bed of my truck and I don't have to use bungee cords to hold the lid on like I did with the Smokey Joe. I love this grill!!
This was my first crack at grilling over charcoal and it's been so fun! Love the grill so far. I made salmon and it cooked evenly and had nice grill marks. Can't wait to use it more!
I have only used it once, so far. It was perfect for two boneless ribeyes, reverse seared. The steaks were excellent. The lid holder and vent slides on the sides were a big help.
I was looking for another portable grill and decided I'd get the Premium Smokey Joe. Its easy to assemble. I put it together in less than 15 minutes. Used it 5 times before giving this review. I've made steak, chicken, shrimp skewers, and even pineapples. The coals stayed lit a long time. The lid locking feature is nice as it made it super easy to carry the grill. Only issue I have is the height. I wish the portable table was still available as this grill continues to be sold. Would be a great addition to the Smokey Joe & Jumbo Joe.
I love my little Smokey Joe Premium Charcoal Grill. For years, when I was younger and had a house full of kids, I used a full sized Weber charcoal grill, and I loved it. But once I retired, I downsized, and moving from a big house with a backyard to a small condo with a tiny patio, it made sense for me to downsize my Weber too. The 14" Smokey Joe is almost perfect for me, but I have to say almost, because the side dampers just don't cut it. I understand that the reason the Premium has side dampers rather than bottom dampers is to make it totally portable, but I'd guess I'm not alone in wishing Weber offered the option of having a bottom damper on this model. So why didn't I just buy a regular Smokey Joe, which comes in the 14" size but has a bottom damper? Because the Premium model has other features that I wanted, including a handle that doubles as a lid support, plus it comes in several zappy colors - I got the gorgeous spring green. So I'm working on modifying this little beauty. I ordered a damper, and I'm in the process of attaching that, after which the Smokey Joe Premium will be perfect for me!
Good charcoal grill for the money. The grate for the charcoal is too course if you use lump char coal. A lot of smaller pieces fall right through and don't get utilized for the burn. It is probably. O.K. if you use briquets. I replaced mine with expanded metal. Air controls are on the side and not underneath, giving you some control. You may consider drilling another larger air hole below the charcoal for better burn.
