The colors come out more pastel looking than bold. Ive used them to make christmas cookies and the red is more pale pink. Easy to use and doesnt have that strong taste that colored foods sometimes have.
Bold colors that blend smoothly and evenly. These Great Value Gel Food Colors are a big improvement over the old-fashioned liquid drops. I switched to gel this year, and I’m so glad I did — the colors mix beautifully without thinning out frosting or batter, and they’re much easier to control. The drops never gave me consistent results, but this gel gives rich, even color with just a small amount. Each tube is clearly labeled and easy to squeeze, which makes it simple to get the exact shade you want. Whether you’re decorating cookies, tinting icing, or working on crafts with the kids, these colors perform just as well as more expensive brands. The classic set covers all the basics, and a little goes a long way, so one pack lasts quite a while. It’s a great, affordable upgrade for anyone who bakes or decorates regularly, and the results really do look more professional. My helpful tip: Start with a toothpick instead of squeezing directly — it gives you more control over the color intensity and keeps your frosting from getting too dark too quickly.
This was only coloring I could find to color eggs on Easter. The instructions didn’t mention coloring eggs, but I used it like I would traditional food coloring and it worked just fine for being a gel.
These gel food colors worked just like they were supposed to. They were easy to use and achieved great results for my baking project. I'm very happy with how they performed and would recommend them if you need a reliable set of colors.
I use a lot of food coloring abd tend to prefer gel or powder based dyes. This is a basic starter set of food coloring. It is a really good starting point for a young or novice baker. It had the basic primary colors but I would also urge you to get the set with black in as well. A small amount of black can greatly enhance the colors. Please add sparingly.
Great Value food coloring gel is vibrant and easy to work with. I prefer it to the liquid. The colors are much more bolder and therefore you get more bang for your buck. If you were wanting a lighter shade you would use less. Easy to control drops with no taste. You get a classic set of 4 in red, blue, green and yellow. Unleash your imagination. This is truly a great value!
These food color gels are great. I had to make rainbow colored cupcakes for my daughter’s spirit week at school and the colors were brilliant! They blended well to make secondary colors as well. We didn’t taste the dyes in the cupcakes either. They mixed very well in the frosting as well.
Typically I need very little product to make nice vibrant colors this was not the case with these food gels. Especially the red. I was looking to get a deep red for Christmas cookies and at best it stayed pink. If your looking for more pale colors these could work for you. They are easy to open and squeeze. Just wish they had more pigment.
the gel is (just) adequate if coloring unbaked ingredients but a complete failure if used for baked items like cakes. I used an entire tube each of red and blue for a July 4th cake. the batter was red and blue. after it baked the colors lightened to watermelon and light teal/aqua. so 2 cakes, the planning, prep, all day in the kitchen, ruined in the final 20mins. it's too late start over. it worth a few minutes of research and a couple extra dollars to buy a reliable quality product.
I typically use Wilton, but I was making a cake that needed a lot of colors and decided to try this. I bought all 12 colors that great value had. It takes entirely too much to color anything, and it immediately seized my chocolate and curdled my buttercream. Not happy at all, and wasted a lot of money, not just on this, but also on the butter, chocolate and icing sugar that was ruined.
