This shortening always works whenever a recipe calls for it, but I primarily use it to make chocolate frosting (don't knock it 'til you've tried it!). I prefer vegetable shortening (like this one) to other ones that are meat-based, mostly just in case a guest doesn't eat meat. (For frosting recipe, just Google Crisco Chocolate Frosting Recipe.)
I use this vegetable shortening in some recipes and it has never disappointed me. It's good for frying and for adding in some recipes. Taste just like the name brand Crisco. Use it in my homemade goodies like pie crusts, sugar cookies and so on. I would recommend this product. Thanks
I've used Great Value brand shortening for quite some time. It's usually around Christmas for pies and cookie baking. I have used it to fry potatoes in my cast iron skillet and in my deep fryer. I can't rate the taste as it doesn't make my food taste funky so I guess that's good news. Compare the price to name brand shortening and you'll see why I buy this instead.
It has a bit of a different texture than namebrand, so wasn't too sure. In the end it produced just as beautiful and soft cookie as name brand shortening.. No difference in taste. Will purchase again.
I am an avid baker, bake quite often. I have also been using this shortening for many, many years. It has always served me very well; I use it all the time, and without reservation. It has worked great for me!
This is my go-to shortening. It is vegetable based so the price is a bit more than the GV shortening that includes animal fats. But vegetable shortening is more healthy. I use it in my homemade pie crusts (they turn out perfect) biscuits, cakes, etc. I use it to "grease" the cooking pans and baking sheets and crock pot. No, not much of a taste but that is exactly what I like about it.
I'm not sure if I got a bad can or what, but I feel like the quality of this shortening has gone down over the years. you can really taste the rancid oils. it gave an off-flavor to my Easter pies this year and I was kind of disappointed. not sure if it's just this brand or shortening in general. I'm going to try the name brand next time and see if it's any better.
...if i was as wealthy as Alice...I would make products better or equal bame brands...CRISCO" smaller containers with excellent quality is much succ essful.. WHY HIRE BULLDOGS WHEN WE ARE AVAILABLE!!??? Lets turn Wal Mart markets around....lets becime like that gai. commercial like we used to be years ago...esp., the bakery...goodness makes people stand in LONGGGG LINES. STOP HIRING THESE DECLASSE PEOPLE...THESE ARE THE DEEPER THEIVES...
I don't know what you guys changed in this product, but it's not what it used to be. I've used this in my buttercream recipe for years and have loved it. However, the last couple tubs have been awful! My batches of buttercream have had white chunks of shortening that just will not incorporate no matter how much I mix it. I even tried using a rubber spatula to smash it against the side of the bowl in the hopes that would fix it--no such luck. I originally thought it was the butter (maybe it wasn't completely at room temperature), but today, I realized it's the shortening when I tried it in my stand mixer on its own. So incredibly frustrating!
They brought me a different one from what I ordered 2 all vegetales shortening 1 shortening ❌ Tomatillos, I ordered 4 pounds and they brought me 1 pound
