Fresh and clean beans that are consistent in quality. They are rarely dented and delicious. The only downside with the packaging is that they are not easy to store.
Great Value red beans are high quality. They are fresh and clean. I never find any dirt or rocks, but it could happen with any bean. i sprout my beans and these are always viable and sprout wonderfully and cook up very smooth and tasty. Never have seen such consistent good quality in red beans. Of course, they are exceptionally nutritious and devoid of any unhealthful effects UNLESS you add a lot of fat to them. I cook them with onions, tomatoes and peppers and some spices with enough water to cover and a bay leaf too in my pressure cooker for 20 minutes max. Oh, don't forget the garlic. Always great! Highly recommended. Other great value beans have done well too and they really help my food budget.
I cook my red beans in a crockpot and brown hamburger meat with onions and add tomatoes and chili seasoning to the crockpot.
Similar to mayocaba beans in texture, but with a darker flavor these are good with cayenne, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Exactly what I ordered! thank you
Definitely creamer without soaking cooks up faster
Exelent
Yummy
I like to fix a big pot of beans, especially on Mondays, wash day. They are pretty easy and don't require a lot of attention. Comparing these beans to named brand, which I sometimes buy, I have found clogs of dirt, dried beans not suitable for cooking, and the beans have more dried dirt on them. I do always thoroughly wash, soak and rinse my beans, so let's hope that dirt is being removed. Also, I pour a handful of beans out of the package and go though them carefully picking out the occasional clog of dirt and all unsuitable beans. I may end up with a small handful of unsuitable beans. All in all, after two hours of cooking, I have a very tasty and satisfying pot of beans!
This particular bean (light red kidney) from great value always seems to have beans in it that were moldy and then dried. Even year ago I had to beans that were twice the normal size, completely had been covered with mold fuzz, and dried and mixed into the bag. I have never had this issue with any type of bean from this brand, but over the long term, these light red kidneys have been of very poor quality. I often throw them out because soaking something all night that might have mold in it seems like a bad idea.
