followed the quick cook instructions but after overnight soak I only medium boiled for 1/2 hr because I like beans crunchy. I added kale and linguica instead of hamhocks
We eat these beans often. They are so good and the variety of beans is just right with lots of sizes and textures. The sodium is not bad at all and the Cajun packet is delicious. We eat ours with cornbread but crackers are also good and if you boil them down until they are super thick then put on top of french fries or tater tots, it is a nice change. The kids always enjoy them because it's not just 'beans again'! Price is good. The recipe on the bag is really good, over the years I've tweaked it to our tastes a little bit but the basic recipe is tasty.
The beans were great I used in a couple different stews that I have made soups that I've made the value is excellent for the price I do not understand the question where it asks about salty I did not find them to be salty in the ratings so I only gave them two stars I didn't understand that but no them is a product value is great price was great Walmart deliver in timely manner
Just bought out of curiosity, but became really impressed at the end product. Instead of ham or polish sausage, used thick cut bacon. Soaking the beans is not needed if cooking in an electric pressure cooker. Just perform a quick soak method (1 or 2 minutes in pressure cooker mode followed by a pressure quick release), rinse and cook again in the pressure cooker for about 15 minutes follwed by a pressure natural release. After that, add the seasoning, lemon juice and diced tomatoes in sauté mode for about 5 add'l minutes. Total time: about 1 hour.
Very good beans! Just be sure to soak them to soften them before cooking. The skins are on the tough side, even after soaking, and pressure cooking. Nevertheless, they're very tasty beans!
My go-to crockpot soup mix. Add some smoked kielbasa, carrots, onion, celery, and broth (or water), and dinner in 6 hours. Don't forget to add 1/8 tsp of Baking Soda to the crockpot to ensure the beans soften (no need to soak the beans)
Kosher, great bean soup for sabbath. It’s easily customizable , you can add in beef and corn, etc. This makes a good amount of food so you can heat it up later as left overs. It’s a nice flavour, the more food added, it needs more seasoning. I add extra cayenne.
I have been using Hurst Ham Beens for over 30 years to make a vegetarian version of the 15 Bean Soup by following the recipe on the back but without the flavoring packet or meat. I just use salt, black pepper, and lots of cayenne and garlic in addition to the tomatoes and green chilis, then serve each bowl topped with chopped jalapenos. Mmmm, so good and healthy and affordable, too! Our family eats this regularly at least once a month and several friends have been turned on to it as well.
I soak these overnight and add to my Instapot cooker for 2 hrs with 8 oz of water. I cook 2 pkgs of smoked sausage and add while letting it rest after cooking for about 10 mins. Great filling meal that always has plenty to go around and my kids love it!
using the spice packet gives it the taste i like not too high in sodium only 135 mg per serving. i add juice from 2 lemons that gives it zest, and carrots onion celery sometimes cabbage. i portion up about 10 servings and freeze in pyrex bowls. nutritionous meals for a couple bucks each.
