I made these for the first time! Oh my goodness they were so good. I honestly wasnt expecting that to be the case. I added a ham hock and smoked sausage. I will definitely be making these again. Beautiful variety of color and flavor! 😋
Basically followed the recipe on the label. Used low sodium chicken broth. Saved time by using a food processor to chop the fresh vegetables. Omitted the garlic. Used my 6 quart Hamilton Beach electric pressure cooker. My only fear: did I overfill the pot?? No, I filled to the top line and the soup cooked quickly in an hour. And was delicious for my dinner meal. I did put 2 of the 3 ham hocks I bought from WalMart in the soup. Not much ham from them but the flavor was there. The soup is thick and delicious. I added some sodium by breaking up saltine crackers into the soup. I am freezing most of it as two people cannot eat 6 quarts of soup that fast!
I am not a beans expert and the beans taste really good I have not tried the seasoning packet so I can't tell anybody how good it tastes but the beans cook very well and it tastes really good. I make a big pot of delicious bean soup and also have made it with rice very delicious no complaints over here!. I do recommend to other customers. And yes I only showed a photo of the beans in the package because my soup is Frozen and I don't feel like taking a picture of it cuz I'm not eating it right now. LOL 😂
Okay, so I brought these for the first time and will now continue to buy them. They are so freaking good, I can't even describe how much I love them. I opted not to use the seasoning pack and altered the instructions just a tad. I did use all the others ingredients for the exception of the lemon juice (just not a fan of lemon in most of my foods). Additionally, I used smoked turkey necks, 4 large garlic bulbs (no such thing as too much in my opinion), about 1.5 teaspoons each of kosher coarse salt, black pepper, dried Rosemary, season all, and because it seemed to need just a little more punch, I added some Mrs Dash at end. And wa-lla they were so good!! I can hardly wait to make another pot. Oh yeah - I cooked them in my Dutch oven and let them simmer uncovered. That will allow the beans to retain even more flavor. P.S. I'm so sorry I didn't take a picture of them in the pot... Enjoy!!!
Not often enough, now that I think about it, do I make a big pot of Hurst's bean soup. Just to have that incredible scent fill your house is worth the effort (which is minimal). But there is much more to this bean soup - the color is amazing with all the different beans - but so is the texture which is a conglomeration of textures from all the beans and everything else you've tossed in. Since every time I make it it is different I'll just say I put in a variety of some or all of one or more meats, vegetables and occasionally some pastas. The bean soup comes with a packet of spices which is superb, but I do, once in a while add other spices to the mix. So, you can see that this is not just a bean soup, but a soup starter! The preparation time is pretty quick for soup, and the number of servings vary if othere items are added. When I make it it always turns out to be a huge pot of soup I serve with fresh made bread, a salad and pie for dessert, There is always left overs which you can freeze in serving sized portions and eat as they call to you! This is making me hungry!
These beans are just the best I've found for bean soup . I have gone back to old school ways of eating and cooking . I now make all meals homemade. Even sauces and dips. I grind my own burger and sausage, I make a soup of some kind several times a week and this is one of the soups. I freeze several servings and spoil myself daily.
It is high salt, no way to get around that between added meat, rotel, and the flavor packet. But it's so easy and it makes a lot. I get about 6 generous main dish-sized servings from one bag. My tricks include adding more ham than called for, whisking in some masa harina after the soup is cooked to thicken it, and mixing in tabasco to taste for a nice warm kick. Esp good in cold weather after doing outdoor chores like snow removal. I do recommend soaking the beans as directed for 8 hours. I use an electric pressure cooker and about 1/3 the water to cook it.
If you have never made this soup you r missing something! First of all , so easy , soak beans over night . rinse again. add to crock pot with great value beef broth ( or chicken) low sodium throw in meat of your choice . Ham, chicken. sausage?.putting veggies of your choice . a few spices . a few hours latter . delicious , low calories and high protein.soo satisfying
on a low sodium diet, purchased dried beans as they are lower in sodium than canned beans.online picture of nutient content shows 65mg sodium per serving...the actual physical bag states 90 mg sodium.same product, same packaging, but nutrient information needs to be upgraded for customers with specific dietary needs
I really wish people would use the review section properly and quit telling us the product wasn't included in their order. that is supremely UNHELPFUL. I can't tell you how these taste because I had to throw out the entire bag. There were two handfuls of floaters after I soaked them overnight and a LOT of the limas and cannellini beans had gray spots all over them. Can't find an expiration date on the bag but I'm assuming these are old and out of date or covered in mold. Obviously, I would not recommend these.
