(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Purchased the metal meat grinder this past month very happy with it
I love this! I didn't have they had a metal one until seeing it on here. This is a must! Don't buy the white plastic one. I bought one before and it broke. It almost hit my toddler walking by. It was very dangerous. This is very safe. I made a mistake and put a different attachment in the dishwasher once and it was too hot and took off some of the metal coating. I say to be safe, handwash with the dawn dish spray.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Trying to clean up my kitchen in so many ways - getting rid of plastic, making as much of our food from scratch etc. This attachment has allowed me to a plastic free tool to make clean sausages for my family, and mince up beef sticks to dehydrate for snacks. It's so helpful as a stepping stone if I want to upgrade to a bigger grinder, but if not, it still does everything I need it to from my kitchen counter. It's a great addition to my kitchen, thanks KitchenAid!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought this product would be great but I was really surprised just how well made it is. I got this for Father's day and went out right away and got some chuck and sirloin to grind. I was impressed how easy it was to grind the meat into my own custom grind and also how easy it is to clean. I've worked in food service for 27 years and was surprised at the restaurant quality weight and feel of this equipment. The burgers I made with this attachment tasted fresher than anything I've purchased from the store or butcher not to mention I know exactly what's in the meat I serve my family. This attachment was a great Father's Day gift!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was chosen to review this Metal Food Grinder attachment from Kitchenaid. It has great presentation and high quality, easy to assemble and also has that Classic Kitchenaid look. I recommend using smaller protions in the meat tray it will grind better and you will have less issues. Once again as always Kitchenaid has a real winner. Two thumbs up Kitchenaid. Keep being creative.
The KitchenAid Metal Food Grinder Attachment is my new "go-to" kitchen tool! After 2 weeks of use, I can honestly say it is the B-E-S-T. The attachment itself is a quality product, made from metal and well constructed. Each piece worked well, and there were no problems in quickly putting the parts together. The instructions were quite clear and easy to follow. I started out with the fine grinding plate. I cut up the chicken into smallish cubes. At this size, they were easy to push through the feeder tube without getting stuck. Don't leave the pieces too large, or they can get a bit stuck in the tube. The fine grind is perfect for make meatloaf or patties. The grinding process was extremely fast so be prepared to keep feeding product into the grinder. Very little pressure is needed to move the food through. Next I tried the medium grind. Again, grinding was fast and easy and the end result was nicely ground chicken. Half-way through I changed the grinding plate, and this quite easy. The coarse grind is rough, and also good for a different texture of meatloaf or patties. The key though is smallish pieces to feed into the hopper. I ground up celery sticks, carrot sticks and onions to go with my chicken, as I was making chicken meatloaf. Veggies grind up quickly and well. The grinder pulls the the food through so quickly, and with veggies you get a lot of juice as well. I did a clean up at this point, and what an easy process. The pieces all come apart and clean up quick and easy. The provided brush is a blessing for getting to the grinder tube, and works quite well. It took less than 5 minutes to get all the pieces cleaned and dried, for my next adventure of sausage making. I didn't have any sausage casings on hand, so I tried making skinless sausage, and this was a lot of fun and worked pretty well. Be sure to grind up your protein first though. I used the medium grind plate, and ground up 50% chicken and 50% spinach. I then put on the sausage stuffing attachment and fed the ground meat and veggie mix into the hopper. Using the large sausage tube, I was able to get a lovely line of sausage on a plate under the tube. I am currently looking for a sausage casing provider so I can making proper sausage. Lastly, I did another clean-up of the grinder, and tried grinding peanuts for a batch of rice crispy treats I was going to make. What a great job it does, as you can see by the picture. Much better than the food processor. Overall this is one terrific product that has me really excited. My KitchenAid stand mixer is now so much more than a "mixer", and with the high quality of the metal grinder, it will be a tool in my kitchen for a long time.
The mixer locks itself up as soon as you screw it together. If you leave it loose to turn when empty, it jams in use. The axle is too long for the body, causing significant jamming pressure that prevents use. How can this pass engineering, not to mention QA? Axle is nearly 1/16th inch longer than the space for it in the grinder body. this makes cutting blades protrude and lock up.
I got this in this weekend and was very excited to use it. I grounded up about 5 pounds of meat. I followed the directions and watched some reviews. It worked well. When I was done, I removed the attachment and was greeted with meat impacted into attachment point. I cleaned it out. Two days later. My kitchen smelled horrible. I tracked it down to the mixer. I removed the top cover and there was blood in the frame. I had to remove the entire gear assembly. Meat was lodged everywhere. It's rusted now too.
Received as a gift a while back, but didn't use until recently. After using it yesterday, I noticed a nasty odor this morning. Took the top off and the inside of the mixer was full of rotting meat juices. Took ages to clean out. Looking at videos, it looks like the grinding screw is maybe supposed to have some sort of rubber or plastic seal? Or at least, one appears visible on some of the videos I've found (but not all). Mine has none. An oversight? Design change? IDK. But it's not usable.
After grinding meat and removing the grinder I looked into the hole where it mounts and noticed meat juices have been leaking into the mixer. The design of the grinder isn't sealed and allows the meat juices to flow back and forth between the mixer's internal parts and the ground meat. This should be a recall item because it could get people sick.
