First and foremost, item was at a better price than seen elsewhere...Quality...Was kept up to minute with what was happening from the time order was placed until it was received...Any quality of the product would be based on the item's manufacturing in the case of item ordered...
The little box that is the MagicJack works great. It gives you a home phone. It comes with a year of use. Then it's $40 year. I'm in Oregon so there is a once-a-year 911 tax of about $13. The trick is when you plug it into the USB of your computer to configure it, it recognizes it and configures it by going to mjreg.com, not the MagicJack.com site. Once configured with a phone number of your choosing (from a long list), you unplug it and plug in a network cable to your router, and, of course, a telephone to it. The fantastic feature that I turn on is the call screening: The caller gets a computer voice saying to push a key on your phone that is random 1 to 9. If they push the right number, the call goes through and the phone rings. Otherwise it times out and you don't get bothered by any robocalls.
this pays for itself the price is higher in the store no phone charges for a year best thing I could have chosen last one I bought was in 2018 so I bought a new cause the phone was static but it was not the magic jack just needed another adapter on it
Engineers of this industry know how to make the task a user-friendly experience. I love the process of installing it myself. One saves money on the phone line. However, a cautionary note: Magic Jack is a simple phone landline service, but it uses the back end of the phone's internet service. A user must subscribe to an internet provider that serves the residential phone number, such as Verizon, Xfinity, T-Mobile, or AT%26T, for Magic Jack to work. A user only pays for internet service to save money rather than internet phone TV bundling; a nit is that MJ doesn't have Caller ID capability, which means a MJ landline phone user will not know who the incoming call is.
Really like the Call Screening option on this device. We haven't received ANY robo calls since switching from our Voip telephone service to MagicJack! It also saved a lot of money since the subscription to use it is very reasonable instead of paying an extra $15/month to the ISP for phone service.
I recently purchased the MagicJack device and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the price is reasonable and the service is acceptable considering the cost. However, there were several issues that detracted from my overall experience. Creating a new account was a frustrating process, with multiple failed attempts due to a finicky webpage that only accepted "SanJose" instead of "San Jose" for city name. I eventually had to call customer service to resolve the issue, which was a bit of a hassle. During calls, I did notice some noise, but it was tolerable given the low price point. However, the customer service wait times were a bit excessive, with an average wait of 15 minutes. My biggest concern was with the porting process, which took over two weeks and was still not settled. The online updates were not reflected in the MagicJack system, and I had to call customer service to get a status update. It was disappointing to see that the information was not updated in a timely manner. If MagicJack can improve their account creation process, customer service wait times, and porting process, I would be happy to recommend their service to others. Until then, I would caution potential customers to be patient and prepared for some potential frustrations. With some tweaks to their system and customer support, MagicJack could be a great option for those looking for an affordable phone service solution.
If you just want a new phone number, MagicJack is probably fine. If you want to port in an existing number, I would strongly recommend against this product. Porting in an existing number costs an extra $20 and, in my case, just didn't work. I submitted a port-in request on June 6th. It was rejected by my current/previous phone provider on June 12th. I reached out to MagicJack three times since then, both via phone and via the online customer service. They finally responded with no helpful information today, just after my return window has expired.
Seemed like a good deal. But doesn't work with my t-mobile 5g internet. One way audio problems and phone won't even ring now. Of course magicjack blames t-mobile and t-mobile blames magic jack. And they both have my money. So there you go down the rat hole.
I've used MagicJack for years and overall the service itself is always good. It's cheap compared to regular phone service and works well for home calling. I bought this one to replace my mom's unit after her previous one died in less than a year. The one before that lasted about 3 years, so the lifespan seems inconsistent. My main issue is with the warranty setup. I tried to use the warranty, but it wasn't honored because I bought a replacement device without the bundled service plan. It turns out if you buy the device with the 1-year service included, you get a better warranty, but if you buy just the device it's cheaper and has no real coverage. It feels like you're paying extra for the service just to get basic protection on the hardware. You can transfer the new device to your existing account and add it to your current subscription, which works fine, but the pricing/warranty structure is confusing and not very consumer-friendly. Overall, the service itself is good, but I'm leaving a lower rating because of how the warranty is handled—not the actual phone service.
I tried to activate and could not. Magic Jack said that this Magic Jack had already been activated with another phone number and could not be used for a new account. Walmart said that the item could not be returned. This seems to indicate that whoever the seller is on this item is scamming people.
