I like to buy this jar of yeast to make my sourdough quick bread. It's easy to pull out of the refrigerator and measure out the amount that I need to make a loaf any day of the week. It makes a wonderful dough that rises so beautifully. It smells and tastes just like yeast should. It gives a good rise.
Love this yeast, all natural, only one ingredient, made in USA ,very important to me . I only use 1 teaspoon to 4 cups of flour and rise so big of course I use unbleached ,organic bread flour . I also make my own sour dough starter , but I don't like the taste of sour dough. So this red star band gives me what I want natural, one ingredient with out the sour taste . Sometimes I only use a half of teaspoon.
Except for the brand, I find no real difference between Red Star and Fleischmann's yeast. Currently, it's a dime cheaper than Fleischmann's, but other than that it smells the same, rises the same and doesn't impart a yeasty taste (unless you really use too much), just like Fleischmann's. Buy and use with confidence. Tip: You can safely put yeast in the freezer (to prolong it's useful life) without harming it. Keep in mind, once opened and frozen it may develop freezer burn.
this is great. its only work up to 4 months and please put in fridge. we didnt last time. i almost didnt get is again. til read the directions I love it ordered this again for sure
I do lots of baking so this is better size/ value than packets. Make sure your liquid temps are what are recommended! Too cold, slow rise if any, too hot it kills the yeast. I have used this for many years with no issues.
a great yeast product that works perfectly. I use it for home made rolls, home made bread, home made pizza dough, etc. Once opened, it keeps just fine if tightly sealed in placed in the refrigerator. I love the convenience of a multi-use bulk product that saves me money in the long run.
two spicy hot for me someone that likes spices would probably be perfect.. THIS BELONGED TO THE review REVIEWED PRIOR !
There's a lady that makes awesome breads and sweets. I haven't used yeast in a long time, but so glad I have this for all those tasty treats!
I've always used prepackaged instant yeast making everything. This time I decided to get a full jar instead. Didn't have any problems with rising my dough. Will purchase again when I run out.
I always use this brand, however, this jar is a dud. My bread dough did not rise. when I tested it by mixing a teaspoon of the yeast to 1.5 cups of warm water, and a teaspoon of sugar, it normally bubbles almost immedietly. That did not happen.
