I generally make my own ginger paste at home but the past few months I just haven't had the time so I buy the Shan ginger paste and it's as close to the taste of freshly home made ginger paste you'll find! Less work to worry about and no compromise on the taste. The jar came packed in multiple layers of bubble wrap to protect it and it really makes cooking a little bit faster.
i bought this product because i am hooked on the video series Buddah's Wisdom on cable tv and decided to loosely try their philosophy of eating to live rather than living to eat-the Tibetan and many other far east monks commonly live to be 100 and over as a norm due to their extensive knowledge and discipline with food and beverages - they commonly use ginger tea as a medicine for a wide assortment of preventative medical uses associated with the liver and immunity - based in my low opinion of gingerbread i did not expect a whole lot from making and drinking ginger tea- i was wrong- this stuff is fantastic- it has a robust flavor and does not take much to make a large cup of hot tea- i had to look it up online as to how to prepare it - they made it sound so complicated with simmering for 10 minutes then steeping and straining etc- it sounded like more trouble than is is worth so i decided to try it my way and it turns out to be perfect for my own taste- one teaspoon of the ginger paste in a cup of water heated for 2 minutes in a microwave, then add 2 tsp of honey and it is good to go-strength can be adjusted by adding more paste as desired- i have a feeling this product will now be a staple in my fridge - it does require refrigeration after opening- the quality is superb and well worth the money if you want a good cup of ginger tea---
Not unlike "busy people garlic," "busy people ginger" is a phenomenal addition to our cupboard insofar as reducing prep time for cooking. We cook 100% of what we eat, so a not small amount of time is spent in the kitchen each day. This has taken so much of my prep work off the table without having to sacrifice freshness and ingredient quality. I also like that it reduces waste by not making me "on the clock" to work my way through fresh ginger before it spoils.
Love it. I use ginger extensively in the cold months as a soup flavoring. It adds a lot of zip, and is less intrusive than pepper. Add after cooking, along with minced or ground garlic for a remarkable flavor combination. It's good with brown sugar (or its substitute if you are diabetic) on whole-grain cereals, particularly oatmeal. Then of course there's ginger bread! Go lightly there.
Not the sweetened ginger paste you get from a tube. True Indian ginger. The only brand my mom and I have trusted to cook my family's recipes for years!
This minced ginger was pretty good, But not as strong as from the ginger people. It was easy to use and I appreciate the large size. It was a good value.
All is good with the product. Well priced. No sugar added and hardly any salt. The only thing wrong with it is that it is extremely watery. Textured more like a soup than a paste.
The taste of the ginger is very diluted by the packing liquid. I had to keep adding it to my soup to get even a hint of ginger. I usually buy fresh ginger %26grate it when I want it. Wal-Mart was out when I got my grocery delivery (which I love!). Never buy pre- grated garlic either. Convenient, yes.
The flavor is not strong enough for my taste, and the container does not indicate whether or when the product expires.
I could only purchase online with shipping. It was in a glass jar. Poorly bubble wrapped with only one layer. Needless to say, glass jar was broken. Walmart makes it hard to return so I just threw it out. Never again :(
