I do a lot of baking and there are certain things that come out so much better with bread flour instead of all Purpose. I use it for all kinds of bread- sourdough, buttermilk, rolls—but also bagels, pizza dough, and even some cookie recipes. Works great and the best price.
im so glad i have this a try. half the price of the bread flour i usually buy and this is way better. I noticed a big difference when I make my Japanese Milk bread. It comes together alot faster and reaches a nice strong windowpane. also great for my homemade sourdoughs.
If you want to waste money on one of the name-brands- go ahead, but I did a test, exact same dough recipe for GV Brand vs the flour "fit for a king", and another imported from Italy. Surprise, the GV Brand did significantly better, and I know why- its protein content is over 15% whereas the other bread flours were in the 12% range. More protein equals more crunch and more flavor. I got a better pizza and bread crust with GV Brand and it is 30% less than the one "fit for a king" and my friend Arthur agrees! Do what you want, but I highly recommend GVB over everyone else!
The Great Value Bread Flour is a nice budget option for people who are looking for a good protein content to do a strong dough structure like pizza crusts. Its good for me and it store for a long periods without getting bad. I don't think its suitable for Keto diet since its full of carbohydrates but it can be mixed with cauliflower for a dietary pizza.
Found a really simple bread recipe online, this bread flour , made all the difference in the world as far as texture and moisture. It just taste better than all purpose flour when you make this recipe . 1 1/2 cups warm water packet of active dry yeast 1 teaspoon salt 1 t. Sugar 3 cups bread flour, maybe a little more if it’s sticky Mix well add a whole bag of shredded cheddar. Divide bread in two loaf pans, I lubricate well with real butter , put in warm oven turn oven off, about 20 minutes it has doubled, bake 375° oven 30 minutes.. fabulous edition to any dinner. Honestly, the bread flour makes a huge difference..
The key to bread flour is to make sure it has enough protein to help you achieve strong gluten and great baking results. Before trying this Great Value brand, I did some research to make sure the protein content was adequate for the simple bread baking I do. It compares to national brands - the only one higher is KAF. This great value worked beautifully and produced nice rustic, tasty focaccia. I would recommend for a lower-cost substitute for the more expensive national brands.
My husband makes yeast rolls which is a favorite for all who eat them. We were out of flour and I bought Great Value bread flour. My husband usually buys a name brand for $2 more on a 5 pound bag. He was sure the quality would not be the same. The Great Value was the same and everyone was happy and I was pleased we saved a few dollars. We realized it late in the day and Walmart delivered quickly. We are very pleased.
I made the best bagels I’ve ever made with this flour! Usually I buy King Arthur but didn’t want to spend the extra money this week. I don’t regret it and I’ll keep buying this one instead
After purchase GV Bread flour for many years, the lats 6 months has been a disaster, I have no idea what happened, but is for the worst, the flour does not dissolve properly, is lumpy and even when trying to sift it, that does not work well, clumps and hard balls in the sifter. I have not seen such bad flour in my 30 years of baking.
Got this to do some baking, opened the bag and there were little black bugs… I just bought it and it wasn’t opened so needless to say I won’t be buying great value flour anymore
