I LOVE B%26B CHARCOAL BUT SOMETIMES IF A BAG IS TORN OR YOU CAN HEAR A LOT OF DUST OR SMALL PIECES IF IS NOT WORTH BUYING. I DO NOT PUT DUST OR SMALL PIECES IN MY GRILLS. I MIGHT BE FROM ROUGH HANDLING BY SELLERS , BUT IT IS A SOMETHING TO WORK ON. I SMOKE LARGER THINGS. BRISKETS, BUTTS, TURKEYS, SO BIGGER LUMPS IS BETTER
Has that hickory flavor when smoking low and slow. I have used it for pork shoulder and the grandkids love it whether it's pulled or sliced. If needed B%26B briquettes has the heat for fast cooks like hamburgers, brats, steak and fish. Won't buy anything else.
This is the best lump for cooking in a Kamado and is my go to for beef, stews, chili, pork... Etc. I was worried about getting this delivered due to handling and there was some shake but I use it for quick , fast, hot cooks and save the large chunks for low and slow. Love this stuff. Considered getting it tattooed on me lever of goodness here.
This brand was recommended by veteran grillers has having more large lumps of charcoal, fewer small pieces, less dust, and for holding temperature well for long cooks while producing less ash. I can't speak to dust - just started using it - but it did have some good-sized chunks. I slow-cooked some spare ribs this weekend in a Kamado-style grill, using a steel insert known as the Slow 'N Sear that rests just under the main grate. I started it slow, then filled the SnS - it's 8.5" deep. I cooked at an average of 230º for 6 hours, and could have kept going; about a quarter of the total lump didn't even burn. And way fewer ashes than a similar cook would have produced with briquettes. For long cooks, I'm a believer. B
I prefer hickory over the oak lump charcoal in the brown bag. The oak imparts an off flavor on the foods for me.
Good solid lump charcoal. Wont disappear in a "flash" as some do. The pure hickory version is the better of the two styles offered .
I've been buying B %26 B charcoal for the past few years now because it's a great quality charcoal that lasts longer than most other brands. It also produces a less and cleaner smoke than the competition, which adds a nice flavor to the meat. I usually buy this charcoal at Ace Hardware, but I stumbled upon it on Walmart's website and it was on sale. It's already a pretty good price over at Ace, but when this is on sale at Walmart.com - it's a complete steal at !!!
The charcoal is long burning, I didn’t notice any hickory flavor. A word of warning, my shipment came from a warehouse in TX via FedEx to FL. The bag wasn’t overpacked and arrived damaged. There were more small pieces and fines in the bag than expected. So if you live a long distance from TX then I would caution ordering this. However Walmart Customer Service was kind enough to refund me for the damaged item.
the price is great!! i ordered 2 , only received 1, and it saying that both were delivered . dont know if im getting a refund for the 2nd bag?
The bag has 60% or more of small pieces, for the price I was expecting larger coal lumps, definitely not buying it again.
