Solid build, easy assembly. I used Loc-Tite blue on the spike threads to prevent loosening over time. The trick is in the technique to use it. It took me a while to refine it, and after I got the hang of it, I was super happy with what I could do that otherwise would be prohibitively difficult or expensive. 1) if possible, work downhill in forward moving rows 2) wait until the day after a soaking rain 3) stepping forward with the arch of your foot over the center of the aerator, land firmly on the aerator, stand on it and rock the handlebar forward while bouncing slightly. 4) rock back , then rock forward with a little bounce for deeper penetration. 5) pull it out, place it forward at your chosen interval and repeat. 6) dont get too concerned with cleaning out the black plug tines. Don't clean out the plug tines until the soil is super super compacted inside, and none is popping out the top. If the soil is moist, it'll slowly work its way out the top. I cleared the tines about every 20 digs. To clear, hold tool at base, where handle and arched pipe meet and with other hand, push tool in from the top enough to let go of it while you lightly pound it in with the palm of you hand.
This aerator works as described. It's best to use it after a rain or watering.
Easy to put together and overall quality/sturdiness is good. My South Texas yard is too compacted - could barely get it 1-2 inches into some parts of the yard and it would only scratch the surface in other parts. Will try loosening the soil a bit with a shovel, then try the tool again.
I tried this on my compacted clay soil and it just ripped the top layer of soil off and the fescue grass with it. Maybe it works on other types of soils/grasses, but it simply did not work on mine. It “seems” well constructed which is why I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 1.
Everything looked good till I started using. The core drills at either ends got clogged with every push. There is a tool provided to push out mud from the cores but doing every time you push the tool into the ground is a chore.
It wold take a 200 lb man to drive this into the ground, even soaking wet. (the grass, not the man!)
there is the worst two I have ever bought supposed to make holes in the ground, but it's impossible to make holes and the dirt is stuck in those big black hose
This shipped and was moving to me for delivery and next thing you knew was I was refunded without explanation
If the ground is hard it will not sink in
Did not work at all. Waste of money. Don't bother!!!!
