I was really surprised at the texture it is very fine, the flavor is good and it does not have the gritty taste a lot of gluten free cake mixes have. The cost is more than some but it is worth it having a good tasting cake. The only down side is that I baked the mix in two 8" pans and once it was cooled and iced the height was a little over 2" tall. I like my cakes taller than that so I will need to use two cake mixes.
This is simply the best gluten free yellow cake mix on the market. It's always moist and never crumbly. We love it for our rum cake!
Compared to baking a gluten free cake from scratch, this cake is fantastic! It is moist and delicious. It is versatile. You can use it for strawberry short cake.
This cake was so easy to make, and my family loved it. It was incredibly moist and stayed that way for the nearly four days it took us to eat it. For a mix cake, it was good, but for a gluten free cake, it was phenomenal. You just don't expect gluten free to be this good, or to hold up so well. I also liked the fact that it could be made dairy free. This cake may be the best chocolate cake I have ever had, of any kind. It had a good solid chocolate taste without being overpowering. It has the convenience of a mix and the texture and taste of homemade. I liked this cake so much that I bought another three boxes of it. Walmart's price was the best I found, and not everyone carries this line, so it can be hard to find. We love the entire King Arthur gluten free line. We have the all purpose flour mix, the baking mix, both cake mixes, and the muffin mix. Two shelves of my pantry are dedicated solely to King Arthur. Whatever they make, I will buy, because it is excellent quality. It really is that good.
I'm the cook and my wife is the breadwinner. Her gluten intolerance led me having a pantry full of oddball flours and concoctions, but I soon tired of the battle to recreate confections free of gluten. For the most part I use Pamela's products but King Arthur gluten-free cakes are unsurpassed in taste and texture with any product, gluten free or not. So why must I order this product online?
The texture is better than any of the other boxed GF brands on the shelf. It is pricey, hard to procure, for some reason, and if you are gifted, you can make it not as dry as GF flours tend to be. I enjoyed it immensely, and reserve it as a special treat for special occasions. I made it for a friend, who is not celiac and drowned it in sweetened condensed milk and a cream cheese based topping and he loved it! I can only bake with GF flours due to severe allergic reactions to wheat. This KA cake mix gave me the pleasure of baking a chocolate cake for a dear friend. I treasure that even at this price point.
i've purchased this item before at whole foods and at two of my local grocery stores. because it's AMAZING!!! when i went back to buy more none of the stores carried the item. i had to go online and found that walmart had the best price with free delivery. all other websites required that i had to place a minimum order of $50 to get free delivery, but who wants $50 worth of cake mix? we are not a gluten free family, but my kids love this cake mix. it's moist, not too sweet, and a little heavier than duncan hines or betty crocker cake mixes. would most definitely recommend this to anyone!
It makes beautifully. At Christmas I used it, baking in three 8 in pans. See pic
It's delicious and has wonderful texture.
I have ordered this mix before and had no problems with it being delivered the next day or so. The last boxes I ordered May 30 haven"t arrived yet and the tracking keeps saying it will be delivered but it doesn"t come. Today it says it will be delivered June 3. June 3 was yesterday, Wednesday. Today is Thursday the 5th of June. This problem is happening with more an d more items that get stuck in transit and I never get them. I waited so long on a $39.99 item I kept forgetting to check because the tracking would say tomorrow or the next day, I'd just keep waiting. I'm a older woman and I 've always trusted Walmart. BUT, It is getting to be such a problem with 3rd party sellers that cannot be trusted to send a item or , they have different return policies I really wish there was another local grocery store I could order from in our vicinity.
