I tried to find a bear belll locally. i was not able to find one, so I was happy to see that I could order one through walmart. the spell has a hidden feature to silence the bell with a little magnet. On the strap, if you don't need to use it. I love that there were different options of colors.
Unfortunately, bear sprays can't be brought to Katmai National Park, so bringing a bear bell with you and talking while you walk are better than nothing. To silence the bell during transport, the strap that attached to this bear bell has a magnet inside that allows you to lock the clapper in place.
Bear bell works fine hooks up easily with Velcro strap
Perfect addition for hiking. Rings when you want it to and is silent when you don't.
Sabre frontiersman bear bell is so easy to attach to something that you are wearing, you just need to be able to wrap the Velcro strap around it. I attach it to my backpack for when I go hiking in the woods. The bear bell alerts any bears so they have warning to run away instead of you and the bear being surprised and who knows what could've happened. It's a bell is a nice size. I like that it's not those cheap type bells that bend if you were to accidentally crush it. The sound of the bell is loud enough for the bear or others to know your around but not to the point that it would be annoying to wear. It has a built in magnetic silencer, all you do is take the one side of the strap and just like any magnet, you put that part of the strap together with the bell and it can't get any simpler then that to make it silent. I think that it's important when you don't want to be walking around a crowd of people and be that annoying person. It's better then carrying around a bear spray!
I've used this bell while hiking in heavily wooded areas. It makes loud noises so everyone and everything can know of your presence. I like that you have the ability to silence it when you know you're in a safe area, because at some points you can want a little peace on your walk.
I haven't had a chance to try it "in the wild," but when it arrived I gave it a shake and I like the low-key sound it makes. I would probably be annoyed by a loud, clangy bell sound while hiking. I just have to hope and assume it would alert bears or other wildlife that something was approaching so they can move along.
There's not too much to it. A simple red bell with Velcro. It attaches easily on my bag or backpack. I went camping last weekend and honestly I didn't see any bears but not sure if there were any at that state park. I can see how some can think the noise is annoying. Hiking speeding didn't seem to bother me but if you're jumping a lot I can see how it could be. You never know when you'll see a bear. Not a bad idea if you're in the wilderness.
This bell totally does the job making constant noise at the slightest jiggle. Place on your bag, belt loop or dog collar/ backpack. It's great for walking or cycling through heavily wooded areas. It may also be useful for things other than warning bears of your incoming presence. It could also warn humans that you'll be coming around a tight bend or some other similar situation where sight can be impaired. The silencer reduces the noise but does not silence it so that's a bit of a misnomer. Other than that, this bell is a handy little item.
So when I read the description of this bear bell I was expecting some kind of special noise maker that bears were afraid of. When I received it I could not stop laughing...its literally a bell, like a jingle bell. I have no clue if this actually scares bears away and honestly I'm not gonna be the one to test it out. I guess bears do not like jingle bells lol.
