Great Value reduced sodium chicken broth is as good as any other name brand broth. Just learned something from my Niece over Thanksgiving meal; since several family members are lactose intolerant and she ran out of special milk; she added a little bit of this chicken broth to the mashed potatoes because she did not have special milk. We could not believe our taste buds; no one knew she used a small amount of chicken broth in the mashed potatoes and they tasted great! No one complained or even knew until later. I guess in an emergency you can make do with what you have! She also had gravy if you wanted it.
When I put meat in the crock pot, I use beef broth or chicken broth instead of water. I'm a live-alone man who has had no cooking lessons. I often make "Bachelor Stew", which is what I call any crock-pot (or other types) of meal where I toss in whatever I happen to have on hand. When cooking pork or beef, or even chicken, chopped up in the crock pot, instead of adding water, I add beef broth. I even use some when cooking ground beef for chili. When cooking spaghetti or noodles, I use broth instead of water to cook them in.
This is a must have at home. It is a versatile item that can be used in so many ways. I use it to make some fast and easy chicken and dumplings, chicken and dressing. But it can be used in soups. Just use your imagination. Quick and easy to use, just shake it, open and pour, heats up nicely on the stove top. Like flavored broth to drink, try this.
I wonder if folks think this is salty? It was one of the items I had to rate. I don't think it is. That might be because I like salty so, to me, it is just right. I like to make Italian Wedding Soup with this. That means adding meatballs, carrots, arugula, and pasta. If there is extra salt, it improves the favor of all these additions and makes this soup (and broth) one of my favorite meals.
I use great value broths a lot. The chicken broth the most for my chicken and dumplins, chicken and rice, potato and sausage soup, garlicky cheese baked potatoes and more. great value is great tasting and priced so everyone can afford to use it in their recipes. The name brand has nothing on this Great Value item.
I've been using the Great Value Gluten-Free Chicken Broth, 32 oz Carton (Shelf-Stable) for a few weeks, and it's been a solid addition to my pantry. The broth has a clean, savory flavor that works well in soups, sauces, and risottos without tasting overly salty or artificial. I appreciate that it's gluten-free, making it safe for those with dietary restrictions. The shelf-stable carton is convenient for storage and doesn't take up fridge space until opened. Once opened, it keeps well for a few days in the refrigerator. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the flavor is a bit milder than some fresh or premium broths, so if you prefer a richer taste, you might want to add extra seasoning or herbs. Overall, it's an excellent, affordable pantry staple that's versatile and reliable for everyday cooking.
I like to occasionally cook with chicken broth rather than water. I like the less salt version. The waxed carton offers more than the canned. I have used both. Canned is easier to store in the pantry, while the waxed offers more liquid. The flavor is similar, however. It's just a matter of choice.
Maybe because the price is cheaper than other known brands, but the veggie broth is very flavorless. Maybe the percentage of actual vegetables used is miniscule which reflects on the taste. It even smells more like plain water. I am a salt minimalist, so I prefer buying any and all foods without salt or very minimal salt. Thus I appreciate my palate not coated with salt taste as even more expensive facsimiles have. I use this blander broth to expand volume of other soups. I will use food leftovers and make soup with this broth. Any bland tasting meat or veggie broth can be flavor enhanced by adding a few drops of other seasonings or other bottled flavorings as Worchestershire or Hoisin or good quality Balsamic vinegar or even BBQ sauce, or even a bit of good quality soy sauce. I even add a bit of fresh ginger to give the entire soup a subtle essence of Asian flavor. I also prefer having veggie based broths which can be compatible with any meat or poultry when out of specific beef or poultry broths. Any broth, basically, can turn even many dark green leafy salads mixes, or bagged raw cole slaw shreds, pre-cooked pasta or rice into one meal soups full of nutrition. I also add inexpensive priced bags of onion crisps as toppings. I also use inexpensive priced beef and chicken broths, instead of butter or other fatty oils, to rejuvenate and add moisture when reheating (at low temperature) cooked meats and poultry
When my aunt is a vegetarian and we moved in together 4 years ago. Since I do most of the cooking I discovered a whole new world of vegetarian culinary skills. Great value vegetable broth is an absolute must for your kitchen. It can be used as a soup or gravy base. Or you can ad a dash of it to almost anything to give it some pep. Also it's shelf stable so you can store several cartons in your pantry without worrying they'll go bad in a couple of weeks.
Buddy. Imma tell you what now. Yessir. Right now. A favorite use for chicken broth (%26 there are many) is replacing water in rice. Go for it like a rabid wolverine, Bean. This same use is grand with pasta. You won't know why the afterburners lit-off sending you streaking across the sky. Then there is that price thing. Because of the insane levels of inflation thrust upon us during the two pairs of years of tears immediately prior to 2024, most food is at least 1/3 more to double what was already more than reasonable. Big W has kept a few basic necessities throttled to somewhat tolerable amounts of price-jacking. Broth of the raging chicken is a basic food in the real category. Seriously folks, there is little taste difference between this %26 the broth in my crockpit from cooking chicken. I kid you not. Sure, I frequently fire up that bird with pepper squeezins %26 such, somethin like Buffalo wings. What of it? Hang on while we streak across the sky with afterburners lit. Look Ma... no contrail grid from cloud seeding since 2024. Makes my ranch dressing from scratch, too, Hugh. That's right. Most folks my age prefer that to the insanely high priced mystery chemicals called sweeteners %26 fastfood stay in your own lane excuses for food. Real fooddoesn't race you to the toilet. Tofu %26 that vegan stuff? Well, you know. When ya know ya know. Ya know? You know, Moe. Have you seen 12 VDC cpap machines in rushhour traffic, yet? Buddy. See, many adults of the responsible variety prefer to not be bombarded by that trendy crap rap used by genX %26 genY trying far too hard to be cool. I replaced most of my wardrobe with very cool duds from Hong Kong via the folks at Temu. I won't order Soylent Green %26 other important products like that, preferring to get them through Big W. Let's see a show of hands from everyone who understands the significance of 451 in the movie Fahrenheit 451. Hold them while we count. You in the red shirt on the left, get your hand back up. That section of North America hasn't been counted, yet. Maybe next week. Did you ever measure the quantities in these various containers of broth? I have. Yessir. The normal size cans are labeled in weight, rather than cups %26 fluid oz. Yup. Same here with these strange screw-cap cartons. Ya look at these boxes %26 guess it's a quart, but they look too large, so maybe they are some of that metric stuff. Right? Nope. Like dairy sales, it's all weird. Yup. Ask me. I'll tell ya straight-up. Is it weird? Yes, it is. Thank you for asking. Next question, please. The quantities of these things? Yes, I did derail on that one. Thanks. Those regular cans have 1 3/4 cup in them. Yes, I measured many cans, %26 can honestly say they might have varied as much as a tablespoon. A cup %26 3/4 is 14 fl. oz. all across this great nation, ladies %26 gentlemen. Pay no attention to coffee machine manufacturers. They lie outright. I bought the first coffee machine before these
