I tried these for my Christmas baking this year because when you bake as much as I do you already over spend so every penny saved counts. I was not disappointed. They weren't as good as my special order from the orchard in Georgia but for the price I was actually surprised. They were nice sized halves. They were fresh and crisp. Flavor was good, just enough salt. I would use again.
It is medically advisable to eat a portion of nuts each day and pecans are a good choice for quick protein. When paired with a carbohydrate like a piece of fruit, the protein in the pecans will prevent a spike in blood sugar, which is important to me as a diabetic.
In terms of substitutions I would prefer if you would use an item comparable in quantity as well as quality. You substituted Bounty napkins for the Walmart brand. It was the same price and I needed napkins so I accepted it but quantity was less than half for the item ordered.
The only difference between these nuts and national brand name nuts is the price. The pieces are good sized and easy to eat or use in pie. I learned that pecans are toxic to dogs, but I have dogs and love pecans. So I got these pecan halves to eat since they are bigger pieces and if I drop one I am not trying to clean up tiny pieces. Even when dropped most of the time the pieces didn't break, and I was able to pick it up whole with my reacher-grabber tool. So get these rather than the pieces, and don't worry about paying more, the other nuts aren't better, they're just more expensive.
I bought these to put in homemade chocolates and i did. Not realize they were both smoked and salted so I opened the package and that was the death of me. I ate half of them. So i decided to buy several packages more and put them in a chocolate/nut mix instead of putting them into the chocolates. What a great product.
This pecan is perfect for pies, cakes, snacks or adding flavor to graham cracker crusts. I like to get my iron skillet really hot, turn off the fire to and roast the pecan halves in the hot skillet for about two minutes and stir them. This really brings out the full flavor of the nuts!
Use a different store location in your area and see the price change. A Walmart scam. I bought this often for my mom around $4. It is now almost $8 when ordering from my store. This changed in less than 2 months. When I change the store location within the same metro, I see it listed at $3 or $4. Hey Walmart, are you using algorithms to make me pay more just because you saw the huge interest? Will buy from a different store.
I ordered two 32oz bags of pecan halves, which totaled 4 lbs of pecans. What I got was 1 - 32 oz bags and 2-8oz bags which totaled 3 lbs of pecans. I needed 4 lbs. if you were going to substitute you could have at least substituted the full amount needed.
usually whole nuts cost more than chopped or broken pieces. for some reason, this was not the case with the pecans. i honestly wish that I had spent the extra money and gotten the chopped version. There were several pecans that had gone bed or worth spoiled, and I did not catch it initially. I dumped some in the food processor and shopping and added them to some Waldorf chicken salad. i kept getting these bitter notes while eating. it wasn't until the next day that I decided to look closer at the pecans. see photo. there were several that were dark , almost black and that's what made my salad taste so bitter. the photo does not accurately depict how dark that middle nut is ... in summary - These need better quality control.
