I was so pleased with the outcome of my ice cream. But, remember, you MUST freeze the bowl for the recommended hours and the ice cream batter has to be chilled as directed for the ultimate results. I used my old standing recipe for my ice cream measuring the 46 oz maximum capacity for the batter. It expands as it freezes and you will get almost 2 quarts of finished ice cream. It keeps in your freezer for several weeks if you need to make it ahead of time. It is a WONDERFUL product and so easy to use!! I love it!
#1 , this cost so much less from Wal-Mart.com , i was going to by this from the kitchenaid web site but seen it cheaper here, My kids and husband LOVE the home made ice cream i make from using this product, the ice cream taste so much better then the store brand and at least i KNOW what is in MY ice cream lol, i put in about 5 ingredients and when you buy it from a store you have about 20-30 ingredients and most of them you cant even pronounce . I will chose this product every time ! NO MORE STORE BOUGHT ICE CREAM FOR MY FAMILY !!
I have used this Ice Cream chrn for years. I purchased it almost 10yrs ago and it is still going strong. During the recent COVID lockdown and I have used it almost every 2nd-3rd day. I have used this device to motivated my two young boys (7&9) to get them excited about cooking and the concept of creating flavours. The rule in our house now is that we have ice cream if you can come up with a new flavour or explain why one of the previous flavours was better than the last, and what you would like to try in the future. We have made swirls, chips, sorbet, chunks ... you name it. The personal favourite for my youngest was Mint Choc Chip, made by infusing real mint leaves into the custard (you would be amazed the difference it makes). He was shocked that mint came from leaves. I have read a few of the reviews and surprised by the feedback. I was quite impressed by the design of the string loaded churn, esp when somebody accidently dropped a sppon into the churn. Some comments/suggestions I would give to KitchenAid is that the bowl is a LEFT HAND THREAD - mention this in the manual. I'm quite strong and I would say the first time I used it I nearly broke it trying to remove it. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend to a friend, and indeed have leant this to many in my quest to bring more cooking into the home.
This little thing works rather great. All you have to do is stuff the bucket in the freezer for 18 hours (yeah, plan your ice cream making 2 days in advance), then pour in the mix and stir. One note, it says it makes 2 quarts, and that's true, just remember that ice cream is 50% air. Put more than 1 qt of mix and you have what we in the ice cream biz call a mess. Also, the cheaper mixes and a faster mix will actually make a little more than 50% air. So just stick to the frozen custard mixes. Besides, the cheap stuff to make at home is even cheaper to buy off the shelf. For just a little more time and effort you can make your own Ben and Jerry's at home for less than $4 a pint. I did knock off a star for value because it really is quite expensive. You can buy a stand alone ice cream machine for about the same money. If you get this, it would be for the convenience of not having an extra machine lying around.
We used our new Kitchenaid ice cream maker attachment for the first time this weekend and loved it! Made some homemade banana nut ice cream that tasted just as delicious, rich and creamy as the ice cream our parents made when we were kids. Brought back great memories. Looking forward to using it again!
The attachment works exactly as it should. Absolutely no complaints from me at all. Freezing the bowl over night, fitting everything together, letting it churn for the right time etc. When I made my chocolate ice cream the only place I went wrong was perhaps not letting the mixture chill longer than what the time said in the recipe, which I found on the KitchenAid website. The ice cream was amazing though. I left the ice cream in the freezer overnight and it was perfect. I'm going to test with a few more ice cream and sorbet recipes. Overall, I'm don't regret buying this attachment. It does what it's supposed to and it does it very well.
I recently replaced my very reliable competitive brand stand mixer for a KitchenAid as I had heard many good reports. I love the mixer, fantastic product. One of the reasons I bought it at the time I did, is that it came with an ice-cream bowl. I frequently used the ice-cream bowl of my old mixer and was excited to try this one out. The attachment does not actually 'click' on but rather sits on the mixing blade. The first time I used it, it kept 'springing' off. I gave up and got my old mixer from under the stairs. I tried to make ice-cream a second time and again a similar problem. It made a terrible noise when slipping off the mixing blade and I was scared that something would break. Again, got out my old mixer. Today I have got it out of hibernation and attempted to use it for the third time. I have researched how to use it on you tube to ensure I was doing everything correctly and found that the attachments shown in the clips were different to the one I have. Maybe Australia/America not sure. But attempted to use it again. Did not work. The attachment does not stay on. I have tried and tried but the attachment will not sit on straight. See photos. I can no longer get out my old mixer as my son and his wife now have it. :( If you are buying the mixer to use as an ice-cream churn.....don't.
I have only used the ice creams bowl three times and packed it away in the cupboard and forgot about it for a year. I got it out to use recently and it had leaked out the freezing liquid through a small whole where the plastic is joined. I would expect a reputable brand to last longer.
I used my ice cream attachment for the first time. I made the Icecream as per recipe and as I attached the part onto the head which seemed to take forever . I needed to YouTube how to do it as the instructions were unclear! The machine began to mix then the spring broke off and went flying into my glass splashback! Not happy but would love help getting a new part and how to put it back on track..
I purchased the mixer about 10 months ago and a few weeks ago added the ice cream bowl. It was in the freezer for the four weeks since purchase until using it for the first time on Christmas Day. After mixing for 45 mins I gave up and put it into freezer as it hadn't reached a usable consistency. The texture now that it is frozen is terrible as I expected a smooth consistency. I got the recipe off the internet so wondering what recipe is recommended for vanilla ice cream. Looks like it has been a very expensive waste of money.
