I bought this KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker for my wife's birthday because I like caramel ice cream... It turned out, my son is the biggest ice cream maker in our five-member family. A good tool in-home incarceration time, for making summer desserts.
I bought this on a whim...but it has turned out to be a necessity at our house. We all like ice cream and frequently to to the local shoppe for dessert after special dinners with the family. However, since the first batch of gelato (Kitchenaid mix) I made for our favorite dessert, we have not been to the local shoppe (I'll bet they miss us).
I am really surprised at the low rating. I bought mine the first year it came out and use it monthly or more without any issues. I love it! The only attachment I use more is my slicer/shredder. I keep the ice cream bowl in a non self-defrosting deep freeze so it is always ready for me. i wonder if the non defrosting freezer is why ai have no leaking issues. But regardless, I could not be happier. I love ot and would and do highly recommend it.
I was so very in love with this super-easy super-reliable ice cream maker. A recipe developer at heart, I tested so many iterations of recipes (more yolks, less cream... more cream less sugar? Infuse the cream, lemon basil ice cream?! Infuse the SUGAR with lavender, and use blackberries! Add blackberry coulis and drizzle in bittersweet chocolate??) I could write a cookbook. This mixer and I had many late nights, each of which I will forever cherish. Unfortunately, today, this beautiful sunny spring day, I say goodbye to my dear friend. Upon moving her from her designated spot to the freezer in preparation for a new flavor, I noticed the dreaded puddle of blue liquid. “WHO spilled Gatorade on my favorite kitchenaid attachment?!” I thought naively, picturing the guilt stricken faces of my husband and two boys. “And why on EARTH were they drinking it on top of the refrigerator?!?” We would have to have a serious talk on not climbing on the appliances. Again. When it came time to remove my cherished friend from the freezer, shock! Another dreaded puddle of blue, this time settled in an unbaked pie shell for tonight's quiche. For a fleeting moment, the Gatorade culprit flashed before my eyes before I realized no one who lives in my house can fit in the freezer. It's an upright, after all. So, goodbye to my beloved companion, you will be missed. And to the lovely folks at KitchenAid, thank you for designing this life changing product. I will be looking for a replacement, I am hoping there is a newer version that has longevity.
We absolutely loved using this attachment to make a variety of homemade ice cream treats, so it was very disappointing that it started leaking it's blue blood all over our freezer and cabinet. We will need to purchase another one... but at this cost--and given that our problem does not seem to be unique--I think I will try a different ice cream maker unless I hear that KitchenAid has solved this problem. Sorry, KitchenAid, you heartbreaker, you!
Loved it for the first year... easy and made great ice cream. Now it's shot and not old enough for the money paid. Leaks the stuff that makes it freeze.
Purchased for my wife 2 years ago and used maybe a dozen times. Noticed last time we used that there was something leaking from the bowl. Thinking it might just leak only being totally thawed we put it in freezer but it is still leaking. Have had Kichenaid mixer and accessories for years, seems the quality of this product is not up to standards.
I got this as a birthday gift last year and didn't get a chance to use it until yesterday. Its been stored in its original packaging in the kitchen all this time, and after hand washing it, I noticed my drying rack had blue liquid all over it and it was leaking from the small knob! There are no cracks or anything, and it's never been dropped or mishandled. I'm so disappointed that I never even got to use it.
The "assembly" (little part that the mixing paddle attaches to) bent so much on the first use that we can't use it now. The replacement part is over $50. No more KitchenAid products for me.
I have had this piece for about 4 or 5 years now but only used it about 6 times. Froze the attachment yesterday and woke up to it leaking in my freezer. No visible crack.
