Best grill i ever owned. Love the ash tray and its ease of use... take out and dump.. nothing more easy to do.. This grill is built very well and sturdy, years of cooking on this one... best grill for the money ! but dont forget the gasket heat felt... its a must for no smoke leaking, keeping that savory smoke flavor rolling across your food .
My husband loves this grill and he is particular about his grills. It has replaced his old ones. We were also impressed with how quickly it got here. We live in Alaska and usually have to wait a long time to get anything. Reasonably priced and the shipping costs didn't kill us either.
Ive had this grill on my list for several years, finally getting it installed in our RV outdoor kitchen, its perfect.
I have a vertical smoker that I bought last year. Its fantastic. Smokers are not ready to go out of the box. You have to assemble and season and SEAL. People complaining about loss of smoke escaping are the ones who didn't follow the steps. Assembly is relatively easy- take your time. Youll need a pair of pliers and a Phillips screwdriver. When you have to put in the side handles, loosen the legs first otherwise youll damage the paint. Otherwise, follow the instructions for everything else. Buy a package of lava lock- yes, thats what its called. Dont just stick it on; measure and use the adhesive. Wipe excess. Only put it on the bottom where the lid hits- all the way around. Put it on the inside of the smoke stack attachment- around the square and around the circle. Let it sit for 24 hours. Dont cheat. Season the grates so your food doesnt stick. I used 10 briquettes and it immediately went up to 250 degrees and still holding after 30 minutes. This is a one meal smoker. Youre not cooking up a feast. 8 burgers; 3 or 4 burgers with a couple ears of corn. The dome of the lid is high enough so I can smoke 2 chickens or a 10 pound turkey- the only quirk would be adding briquettes when the temperature dips. You have to remove any food on 1 of the 2 grates, lift the grate , dump the hot coals, put the grate back on, put your meat back on, and resume. On the bright side, due to its size it reheats fast. The trouble with the ash pan is there is a raised button that has to be depressed to get the tray out. Youre going to have to wait until its cold or hope your gloves are good enough so you dont burn your fingers. Smoking is a lot of work, but the rewards are worth it. Theres also a lot of trial and error. Patience.
This was a gift over Christmas. While I haven't put it to extreme/constant use, the times I have used it were awesome. The intended use is at our weekend getaway or when we are traveling, tailgating. Running the grill is easy, it heats up quick on minimal charcoal. The adjustable height for the coals is a very great feature, need to reverse sear anyone?? As a smoker I stretched it from an OK Joe's beef jerky recipe to steaks, wings and even cheese, yes in a Canadian winter it'll go that low and slow. My only complaint is some shoddy spot welding on the outer shell. The very bottom sheet has let go along the back seam. Easily repaired once I can get to my welder. That is the only reason the quality rating gets an average. The fitment, the rest of the build, the finishing and even installing a gasket get top marks from me.
Works great for extra cooking space for large cooks, and great in the bed id the truck for outings.
Temp gauge does not work, and the racks started rusting after the first one
I bought this for my boyfriend's birthday. The size and the functionality fit the expectations of my boyfriend. However when we tried to assemble the grill, both of us had a hard time removing the ash tray. We watched the Oklahoma Joe's tutorial for this and the catch on the ash tray wouldn't release. When we finished using the grill, it was impossible to remove the ash tray. I feel there was a manufacturing issue with the parts. In my opinion, the design of the ash tray was dumb. There was barely enough clearance for the ash tray to be lifted since there was metal on both sides sticking out. We had to wait for the grill and coal to cool before removing the ash tray. I was outside for over 30 minutes at 11 pm, watching the 10 second clip of the tutorial and couldn't remove the ash tray. I was tempted to break the grill at this point!
We didn't get any of the hardware needed to put the grill together. Be sure you are actually getting an order fulfilled by Walmart, not a 3rd party seller.
The top grill grates rusted very badly over night on the first use. Only 6 days old, called customer service and they will replace the grates but on back order 4 to 6 weeks from China. I will not use due to rust and or bad metal. Looked Nice and well-made at first look but now not so sure.
