I make the healthier version of the Girl Scout cookies using dates and these coconut flakes and they are perfect for my recipe. I love that the only ingredient is organic coconut, straight to the point with no unnecessary additives. I do keep them in the fridge after they have been opened and last me for weeks. Definitely recommend if you're needing coconut flakes in a recipe or as a topping.
Have not yet opened the bag to taste since there are pantry shelf products I buy to use weeks, even months later. However, the low price for the amount of volume and organic and unsweetened (no sugar added) is most important when choosing shredded coconut flakes, at least for my health conscience efforts while not depriving myself of natual flavors when baking at home. I even make my own candy with wholesome home-made ingredients with the exception of a couple of shortcuts for melting caramel followed by either hard shell chocolate syrup or small hard dark chocolate pieces. I use a generous layer of coconut shreds or flakes, sesame seeds, other crushed nuts, raisins or dry cranberries or other favorite pieces of dried fruit, then pour the melted caramel and hard shell chocolate syrup only after the mixture layer feels colder if the hard shell chocolate is to harden. I break up pieces and keep refrigerated top enjoy the crunchy texture. I enjoy more generous portions at a fraction of the price for chemical enhanced, corn syrup loaded candies bought at most stores. Unsweetened coconut flakes are versatile for exotic savory dishes too. While store bought coconut cakes are mostly coconut flavored with skimpy amounts of odd tasting coconut shreds, for less than $2 or a bit more, fresher coconut cakes and cookies can be made at home with more liberal use of coconut, toasted or raw. Anywhere else, outside of Walmart, this size bag of organic unsweetened coconut flakes would cost multiple times more. Walmart is providing and adding healthier products to spare our budgets from paying more and getting less at specialty health food sources, so we can afford to eat healthier.
Delicious. This is my first time trying this %26 it won't be my last. It has a slight sweetness %26 such great flavor %26 texture. It's really good on tortilla chips. I prefer better room temperature more than I do cold from the fridge. So maybe eat as much as can before you refrigerate it.
1st time trying Walmart's brand of unsweetened coconut. I use unsweetened coconut mostly for baking healthy snack bars and cookies. I toast it first and then continue on with my recipes. I made some bars with this, and I found that once it was mixed in with all the other ingredients in my recipe, that I couldn't tell the difference. I will continue to buy it and enjoy some savings.
I like these coconut flakes for the following reasons: First, no hard work for me to brake a hard shell and use my strenght removing the coconut from shell to put into those lovely white flakes, the flakes are not sweetened by anything then from their natural tree ripe state, and I love adding them to my cereal, yougert, any food that I wish a healthy treat!
I knew this was unsweetened but i thought it would have a tiny bit of sweetness, also it was a little on the crunchy side. The recipe i used it worked perfect because condensed milk was used and the crunch made it better. My issue is the more expensive price just because its unsweetened, to me it should be cheaper because sugar isn't added. And organic coconut is a joke, no pesticides are used because of the shell it naturally comes in
I wanted to get the three pack, but website said not available. So I ordered three packages; not sure what the difference would be. I used this in a healthier recipe with sugar free chocolate and sugar free peanut butter and it worked beautifully.
These coconut flakes are fragrant, dry, and not overly processed. The unsweetened and organic formula makes them versatile for both sweet and savory dishes. I use them in oatmeal, granola, curries, and baked goods. The flavor is naturally coconutty without being artificial. Only reason for 4 stars is the 7 oz bag goes fast if you cook with coconut regularly. Would love a larger size option.
I didn't like the texture it wasn't fine enough for me, like Bob's Red Meals brand better. you don't carry it in the store it has to be shipped and it doesn't come out of my snap card I had to pay cash for it I don't like that part takes more money out of my bank account
Walmart says they offer free pickup. When I try to process a return the original purchase of 3 bags $7.92, it only offers $2.64 for 1 bag. There are actually 2 bags to return. Now, I will return to the store to receive a refund hopefully for $5.28. So, you guys need to work a little more to perfect the system. First, what's the minimum amount for a home return pickup? Why don't they offer pickup when they deliver? That would be cool. Drop off groceries and pickup returns and take back to store for a small commission. Maybe Wal has lost too much at this point… hmmm Maybe I could get a job working to help with operations. That would be great. Feel free to reach out for my resume.
