Very good unsweetened baking bar. I melt it over low heat with some ghee or butter and add stevia to sweeten it. It makes a delicious bar to have on the Atkins diet or keto diet. I sometimes add some pecans to the mixture and roll it into balls and cool it in the refrigerator. Yummy!
I don't eat sugar, but I love chocolate! I am always on the lookout for a tasty unsweetened chocolate bar to have as a treat. I prefer unsweetened chocolate over the no-sugar bars that use other types of sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, sugar alcohols, sucralose, etc. I have tried many different brands of unsweetened chocolate bars and the Great Value brand is a favorite. The bar is easily broken into small pieces for just the right size tasty treat. They are not too thick and the flavor is intense, but smooth, and not as bitter as some other unsweetened chocolate bars. I don't know if these are good for baking, but if you like the taste of deep, rich chocolate with no added sweetness, these are an excellent choice for a treat.
This is an excellent option for brownies. I think I like the taste of this chocolate better than the name brand I can usually find. There aren't many options for an unsweetened chocolate bar. My go to brownie recipe: 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup flour 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate 1 stick butter 6 ounces chocolate chips Preheat oven to 335F. Spray a 9"X13" pan with nonstick spray. Melt unsweetened chocolate in a microwave safe measuring cup on 50% power in 30 second intervals; mix after each. When chocolate is mostly melted, add stick of butter (cut into chunks) and stir until completely melted. Set aside. In large bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar and mix to combine. Add vanilla and salt; stir to combine. Slowly, add the melted chocolate while whisking (to avoid any hot chocolate curdling the eggs). Mix thoroughly. With a silicone spatula, fold in the flour. Do not over mix. Stir in chocolate chips. Pour evenly into baking pan and bake at 335F for ~22-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean. Enjoy!
Love this chocolate. Even though it's dark chocolate, it doesn't have an off putting aftertaste. It's actually mild in flavor and melts really well. Very good in a chocolate cocktail.
I eat it as a snack and the taste is excellent.Price is the best and affordable. I have done plenty searching and this is the best price I've seen anywhere.Thank you Walmart.
I mix this with stevia and walnuts. Add some French vanilla coffee creamer and water. Hardens up good. If you want softer, add more water.
Every day, I regularly eat 1 ounce of Baker's Unsweetened 100% Cacao Chocolate Bar. When I saw that Great Value had come out with a similar 100% Cacao Chocolate Bar, I decided to try them both at the same time to see if there is any difference since I usually prefer Great Value products. I bought 2 bars of Baker's and 2 bars of Great Value and tested them equally each day, over the next week. I like the thinness of Great Value and the size of each square better than Baker's; however, I do not like the taste as much as I do Baker's. I checked the ingredients lists to determine why. The reason? Baker's Ingredients: Chocolate. Great Value Ingredients: Chocolate liquor. It all comes down to personal taste. Some people may not notice the difference in taste, especially if used for baking. I notice it because I eat it straight from the package. It is worth trying both since the difference in taste is not offensive.
It's somewhat PRICYi n my opinion for a small chunk of unsweetened dessert making ingredient! IF it could be below $3 per package is MORE consumer friendly for this oncoming holidays.
Good chocolate and if you've never cooked with a more expensive brand you'd probably not notice any issues. It melted well and the taste was basic chocolate. There is a smoothness and richness to some of the more expensive brands that this one doesn't have. Nothing wrong with this product just not the same quality as some others.
Wanted to start making my own sugar-free confectionery items using unsweetened chocolate… This is very bitter and strong flavor… Must add some coconut oil and nut butter to smooth and mellow the taste and assist in melting. I wish this was available in milk chocolate which would not be as bitter… Otherwise you must be aware that this is dark and bitter.
