This pan performs extremely well, just as stated in other reviews. It is very heavy. The size is medium-large. Although the literature states that it is "pre-seasoned," I followed recommendations to season it further. I rubbed it lightly with canola oil and placed in in a 350° oven, upside down, for one hour and let it cool to room temperature. The extra oil dripped off onto an aluminum covered tray. The pan was than shiny and not at all sticky; so, a totally non-stick surface resulted from the second seasoning. My first pizza had a wonderfully crisp crust which cooked completely in just 12 minutes at 475° and it was reviewed very favorably by my guests. After serving, I scraped any pizza residue from the pan with a flat wooden spatula, re-oiled it and placed it back into the still warm oven to dry. Thus, the seasoning continues! I look forward to many more delicious results from this really great pizza pan.
I use lodge cast iron products almost everyday when at home. I had several pizza stones (which all eventually broke) at some point over the years. When I found out lodge made a pizza pan I couldn't wait to get one. Instead of being disappointed when my old stone broke I was excited I could finally order one from lodge. I baked a pizza on it the first night. Nice crispy evenly cooked crust and of course it stayed hot long after it came out of the oven. Nothing better than lodge and best of all it is made in the USA!
I have owned 2 pieces of cast iron cookware for the past 20 years and with time have built up very nice seasoning on both pieces after years of love, devotion, care and yes a little abuse. Lodge cast iron cookware can handle anything and everything. This Pizza Pan came with a manufacturer's pre-seasoning that was such a wonderful delight and such a bonus! I didn't want to take the time to do a truly homemade pizza so I threw my pizza pan in the oven and preheated the oven then put a frozen store bought pizza on the pan and cooked it. The pizza came out with that stone brick crispy crust and it was DELICIOUS!!! There are a few steps to keep your Lodge cast iron clean and with time to make your griddle a truly non stick seasoned piece of cookware: 1. Do NOT start out on high temperature! Start each use with warming your cast iron in the preheating of the oven until it reaches cooking temperature. Once the cast iron cookware is heated it is an all inclusive even heated cooking surface and will retain/maintain heat for a even cooking experience and joy. 2. After each use, set your cast iron cookware to the side and let it cool off a bit, then wipe out the cast iron with paper towels, rinse with warm to hot water and while scrubbing with a nylon brush, dry with paper towels, put your cast iron cookware on the stove top and turn on the eye on low, let the cast iron dry out over the flame/eye. When you can drop a few drops of water on the cast iron cookware and the water sizzles and disappears quickly, then it is time to turn off the eye/flame and with a paper towel season your cookware with Crisco or oil, your cookware on the inside, rim, outside and on the handle. Set the cast iron cookware to the side and let it cool down to room temperature. 3. If for some reason you have a build up of food / gunk in or on your cast iron cookware, here is a quick and easy way to get it clean. Warm your cast iron cookware on low, put a 1/4 cup of oil in the cookware along with about 1/2 cup of kosher salt (to make a slurry). Take your cast iron cookware off the stove and place on your working service or inside a ribbed cookie sheet and with a wad of paper towels scrub your cookware with the oil/kosher salt slurry. The oil lubricates the cast iron and the kosher salt acts as an abrasive cleaner (I have used tongs to hold the paper towels so I don't get burned by the heated oil slurry). I typically wipe out the slurry onto my cookie sheet (in case the cookware isn't clean enough - I can re-use the slurry), then take the cast iron cookware to the sink and with a nylon brush and hot water, clean the cookware. If all the gunk is gone, then dry the cookware and follow step 2 to season the cookware. I look forward to many years of enjoyment out of this piece of cookware!
This is my 2nd cast iron pizza pan. I use it more for roasting, chicken thighs and vegetables. It also makes a great griddle for making breakfast. When I make pizza, It makes the perfect golden crust.
I have Been a long time believer in making pizza using a pizza stone and have used it for past couple of years until I used this cast iron pan. I love it. The crust is perfect, cook at a lower temperature, cooks in less time, easier clean up ( non stick pan ) and most important, "BETTER PIZZA". Followed cooking instruction and found that I had to cook my pizza longer than what direction said but all ovens may vary slightly. I placed pan on a lower shelf in the oven to ensure I would get a good crust on the bottom. Follow the direction on the care of your cast iron pan and you can't go wrong.
This is the perfect replacement for my pizza stone. I had several crack in my oven, so I was afraid to try another, but I wanted crispy, even heat like the stone provided. This worked perfectly. Solid, even heat without the fear of cracking like the stones did. I use for pizza, cookies, buttermilk biscuits, breakfast scones, anything else I want evenly heated on a baking sheet type surface. I would definitely recommend.
got this for a party... used it for my weber kettle 22.5. worked great... crust was awesome did 10 pizza only took 8 mins per
I adore Lodge don't waste you time buying cheaper they will never work always stick. But lodge always releases first and last times sorry I waited so long to get smarter
I have made pizza and artisan bread on the pan. It worked great. I keep the pan in the oven while I preheat it and got a nice brown crisp crust. Really glad that I bought it, think it will get a lot of use!
I thought it was a little strange there was absolutely zero Lodge branding anywhere on the packaging or inserts. Unpacking it further, I knew it was a fake -- no Lodge branding anywhere on the pan itself. Be very careful with who supplies the pan to you... the one I got is very clearly fake, not a Lodge, not made in USA, etc.
